Pay rate: $35.92/hour

Primary Role

Illinois American Water is seeking a Sewer Jet Rodder Operator to join our team in Woodridge, IL. This role will work hand-in-hand with our plant operators in helping to identify material that needs to be prioritized and hauled. You will be responsible for operating a variety of machinery including sludge and belt presses. You will also work with our contractor when removing solids from the processing plant.

Key Accountabilities

  • Load and transport liquid sludge from one wastewater facility to another.
  • Belt Press operations and daily upkeep of sludge management data.
  • Inventory and ordering of polymer and sludge management related chemicals.
  • Basic maintenance and upkeep of the sludge truck/tanker, sludge loading tractor, and any other vehicles used.
  • Provide regular feedback to operators and/or foreperson regarding the sludge management process.
  • Intentional and daily contributions to facility cleanliness and order. Includes general housekeeping as well as general grounds upkeep.
  • Facility, operational, and/or maintenance assistance (cleaning tanks, oil changes, painting, daily operations, etc.) at multiple facilities as requested by Operators, the Foreperson, or Management.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Responsible for the safe operation of all daily functions including those involving the sludge tractor/trailer, dump trailer, sludge loading tractor, belt press, and other facility equipment.
  • Follow all safety rules and operation procedures as established by the Company.
  • When applicable, and as part of the sludge management process, this person may collect liquid sludge and/or cake samples.
  • Mathematical aptitude to effectively perform calculations associated with the position and to ensure efficiencies in sludge management operations.
  • Mechanical aptitude to service and maintain a wide variety of machinery and equipment, including the tractor trailer used for liquid sludge hauling, dump trailer, sludge loading tractor, and belt press (when applicable)
  • Comply with all requirements to provide high quality biosolids treatment as established by the company and governmental regulatory and environmental agencies.
  • The ability to learn and use computer programs such as Outlook, Microsoft Office, Waterly (Production Department's data entry system), and Map Call.
  • Familiarity with SCADA computer systems for utilities.
  • Must be available for work after business hours and during emergencies
  • Physical capability to perform heavy manual labor in all types of weather
  • Must be reliable, responsible, organized, resourceful and able to think and act promptly, all while most often working alone
  • Perform housekeeping duties around the facility
  • Work with plant operator to perform tasks around the facility
  • Ability to cooperate/collaborate with other wastewater and laboratory personnel
  • Perform backup operational duties with wastewater operations
  • Good written and verbal skills
  • Prompt reporting of safety or environmental concerns or those relating to the loading/unloading of sludge or overall management of the wastewater facilities
  • Strong problem solving and prioritizing skills
  • All other duties as assigned by management

Experience/Education

  • Possession of a valid Illinois Class "A" CDL with "N" endorsement as well as a safe driving record
  • Must be able to meet all applicable D.O.T. regulations
  • Qualified candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant operations is preferred
  • Opportunity for growth by learning and obtaining Treatment Operator licensing

Travel Requirements

Local travel within service territory required

Work Schedule

Full-time, on-site Sunday-Thursday, 7am-3:30pm Opportunity for overtime
