The Project Engineer supports the design, production, and installation of custom cabinetry and millwork projects. This role bridges drawings, manufacturing, and project management by coordinating with project managers, production teams, and ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to client specifications.
Responsibilities- Oversees execution of project from drawings, samples, schedules and coordinating meetings and ordering materials.
- Reviews contracts and compares to bids, takeoffs, specs, and architectural drawings, checking for AWI and Leed requirements.
- Develop cut lists, and material take-offs for cabinetry and millwork projects.
- Review architectural plans and client specifications to ensure design feasibility and accuracy.
- Work closely with project managers, designers, and production teams to translate concepts into manufacturable products.
- Select appropriate materials, hardware, and construction methods for each project.
- Coordinate with vendors and suppliers regarding specialty items, finishes, and hardware.
- Provide engineering support during fabrication and installation, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
- Ensure adherence to industry standards, safety regulations, and company quality guidelines.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, revisions, and change orders.
- Support continuous improvement by recommending more efficient production or engineering processes.
- Work with accounting for project set up and compliance.
- Experience with cabinet making, woodworking, or millwork manufacturing is helpful, but not required.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Cabinet Vision, or similar) helpful.
- Strong understanding of woodworking techniques, joinery, and materials helpful, but not required.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and blueprints.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Thrives in fast-paced, deadline driven environments.
- Office and production floor environment with regular collaborations between engineering, shop and installation teams.
- Occasional site visits for measurements, installation coordination, or troubleshooting.
- Experience in the commercial construction field is also helpful.
