Grade 7 Reading Teacher

Woodstock Public Schools is seeking an outstanding and student-centered Grade 7 Reading Teacher for Woodstock Middle School for the  school year. The successful candidate will be committed to ensuring high levels of literacy achievement for all students through engaging, evidence-based instruction aligned to Connecticut Core Standards and the district's continuous improvement goals. The ideal candidate will foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment, utilize data to drive instructional decisions, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and support the academic, social, and emotional growth of middle school learners.

Responsibilities include delivering high-quality reading and literacy instruction aligned to Connecticut Core Standards and district curriculum. Implement evidence-based literacy practices that support reading comprehension, vocabulary development, writing, critical thinking, and analysis of complex texts. Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with IEPs, 504 Plans, and advanced learners. Utilize assessment data, including district benchmark assessments and classroom-based measures, to monitor student progress and inform instructional planning.

Create a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom culture that promotes student ownership of learning and academic success. Collaborate with classroom teachers, interventionists, special educators, and related service providers to support student achievement. Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), data team meetings, and district professional development. Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, instructional goals, and opportunities for support. Integrate instructional technology and digital resources to enhance student learning and engagement.

Support Woodstock Public Schools' focus on continuous improvement, student leadership, and positive school culture. Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reporting requirements in accordance with district expectations.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include a strong understanding of adolescent literacy development and effective reading instruction at the middle school level. Knowledge of evidence-based literacy practices, intervention strategies, and assessment methods. Ability to analyze student data and implement targeted instructional supports. Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Commitment to equitable educational opportunities and inclusive instructional practices.

Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative school team focused on student success.

Qualifications include Connecticut State Department of Education Certification: 015 English 712, or other appropriate Connecticut certification as determined by the district. Bachelor's Degree required;
Master's Degree preferred. Experience teaching reading, literacy, English Language Arts, or intervention services at the middle school level preferred. Familiarity with MTSS/SRBI processes, progress monitoring, and data-informed instruction preferred. Experience utilizing educational technology and digital learning platforms. Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and collaboration.
