Aboutthe Opportunity
Our client, a well-established and growing construction company in the Woodstock, GA area, is seeking a Construction Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing job cost accounting, financial reporting, WIP management, and partnering with operations to drive project profitability.
This position is ideal for a hands-on construction accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys building processes, managing teams, and supporting executive decision-making.
Key Responsibilities- Financial Reporting & Close
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement preparation
- Manage the general ledger and ensure timely and accurate month-end close
- Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
- Provide financial analysis and reporting to senior leadership
- Job Costing & WIP
- Lead job cost accounting and cost tracking across multiple projects
- Prepare and review Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
- Ensure accurate percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
- Analyze project performance and identify cost variances
- Partner with project managers on forecasting and margin improvement
- Compliance & Controls
- Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures
- Ensure GAAP compliance and alignment with construction accounting standards
- Coordinate with external auditors, CPA firms, and tax advisors
- Oversee AP, AR, payroll, and lien waiver processes
- Manage bonding, insurance reporting, and surety relationships
- Leadership & Systems
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff
- Evaluate and optimize accounting/ERP systems and reporting tools
- Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5–10+ years of accounting experience, including construction industry experience
- Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and POC revenue recognition
- Experience with construction ERP systems (Sage, Foundation, Viewpoint, or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills
- CPA or CMA preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and analytical abilities
