Construction Controller

About the Opportunity

Our client, a well-established and growing construction company in the Woodstock, GA area, is seeking a Construction Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing job cost accounting, financial reporting, WIP management, and partnering with operations to drive project profitability.

This position is ideal for a hands-on construction accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys building processes, managing teams, and supporting executive decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

* Financial Reporting & Close

* Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement preparation

* Manage the general ledger and ensure timely and accurate month-end close

* Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections

* Provide financial analysis and reporting to senior leadership

* Job Costing & WIP

* Lead job cost accounting and cost tracking across multiple projects

* Prepare and review Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules

* Ensure accurate percentage-of-completion revenue recognition

* Analyze project performance and identify cost variances

* Partner with project managers on forecasting and margin improvement

* Compliance & Controls

* Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures

* Ensure GAAP compliance and alignment with construction accounting standards

* Coordinate with external auditors, CPA firms, and tax advisors

* Oversee AP, AR, payroll, and lien waiver processes

* Manage bonding, insurance reporting, and surety relationships

* Leadership & Systems

* Supervise and mentor accounting staff

* Evaluate and optimize accounting/ERP systems and reporting tools

* Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

* 5-10+ years of accounting experience, including construction industry experience

* Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and POC revenue recognition

* Experience with construction ERP systems (Sage, Foundation, Viewpoint, or similar)

* Advanced Excel skills

* CPA or CMA preferred

* Strong leadership, communication, and analytical abilities
