Construction Controller

Our client, a well-established and growing construction company in the Woodstock, GA area, is seeking a Construction Controller to lead its accounting and financial operations. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing job cost accounting, financial reporting, WIP management, and partnering with operations to drive project profitability.

This position is ideal for a hands‑on construction accounting professional who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and enjoys building processes, managing teams, and supporting executive decision‑making.

• Financial Reporting & Close
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statement preparation
• Manage the general ledger and ensure timely and accurate month‑end close
• Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections
• Provide financial analysis and reporting to senior leadership
• Job Costing & WIP
• Lead job cost accounting and cost tracking across multiple projects
• Prepare and review Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
• Ensure accurate percentage-of-completion revenue recognition
• Analyze project performance and identify cost variances
• Partner with project managers on forecasting and margin improvement
• Compliance & Controls
• Maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures
• Ensure GAAP compliance and alignment with construction accounting standards
• Coordinate with external auditors, CPA firms, and tax advisors
• Oversee AP, AR, payroll, and lien waiver processes
• Manage bonding, insurance reporting, and surety relationships
• Leadership & Systems
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff
• Evaluate and optimize accounting/ERP systems and reporting tools
• Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5–10+ years of accounting experience, including construction industry experience
• Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and POC revenue recognition
• Experience with construction ERP systems (Sage, Foundation, Viewpoint, or similar)
• Advanced Excel skills
• CPA or CMA preferred
• Strong leadership, communication, and analytical abilities
