The City of Woodstock, Georgia is seeking a Systems Administrator. This full-time position ensures the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of the City’s information systems to support core organizational functions; provides essential Information Technology (IT) infrastructure planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of enterprise-level application, server, and network‑related systems. Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Chief Information Officer.
Job Responsibilities- Install, administer, and maintain business critical infrastructure including power equipment (UPS) and cooling, server infrastructure (physical and virtual servers, hosts, storage, and related software and equipment).
- Monitors system performance; verifies systems are working properly; performs upgrades as necessary; supports and maintains servers and associated equipment and ensures high availability.
- Establishes and maintains compute patch management system, schedule and processes.
- Install, manage, and maintain software including operating systems, databases, network servers and network applications.
- Install, administer, and maintain enterprise software such as Active Directory, email, endpoint protection, Office
365. - Performs server and security audits.
- Ensures compatibility and interoperability of City computing systems.
- Install and assist with other technical resources as needed: copiers, printers, audio/visual equipment, smart phones, and tablets.
- Install, administer and maintain city‑wide phone system
- Prepares and maintains up‑to‑date documentation supporting assigned and related areas of responsibility.
- Serves as technical expert for the organization, capable of analysis, implementation, and support of the City’s information technology infrastructure, including new or upgrade installations of existing clients, servers, applications, and information systems security.
- Develops, manages, and maintains backup and disaster data recovery strategies. Responds to service outages and other problems with mission‑critical systems.
- Delivers excellent customer service to diverse audiences. Provides Tier 2 support for technical issues and troubleshoots problems to resolution.
- On‑call support 24/7 on a rotation.
- Provide audio‑visual support to public meetings on a rotation.
- Acts ethically and honestly; applies ethical standards of behavior to daily work activities and interactions.
- Conforms to all safety rules and performs work in a safe manner.
- Maintains effective work relationships.
- Provides guidance to junior members of the team.
- Adheres with all City and Department policies.
- Arrives to work, meetings and other work‑related functions on time and maintains regular job attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Requires a Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related field;
- Four (4) years of related work experience in systems administration and knowledge of the following is required:
- Microsoft server and client operating systems;
- Enterprise software, including SQL databases, web services and email systems;
- Server and desktop enterprise management tools such as patching and anti‑virus;
- Windows scripting and other scripting languages and
- Understanding of switched Ethernet network topology and TCP/IP protocols.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current A+, Microsoft MCSE, Azure Administrator or AWS Sys Ops Administrator certification is preferred.
- Ability to possess and maintain Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) security clearance and requirements.
- Possession or ability to obtain and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License.
- Ability to pass a pre‑employment background and/or criminal history check.
- Ability to attend and incorporate learning from approved trainings on a regular basis is required.
- Excellent analytical, communication, interpersonal, technical writing, and organizational skills. Ability to use technical and analytical knowledge to solve technical problems and make effective decisions within short time frames to minimize system down time.
