Overview

The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients, families and significant others receive individualized high‑quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and are supported through the Wellstar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the Wellstar Professional Practice Model and evidence‑based practice and research.

RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the Wellstar Values. It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, the individual upholds the voice of the patient, follows system policies and procedures while supporting service excellence goals.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Exemplary Practice and Outcomes

  • Perform the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation) using evidence‑based practice, analytical/critical thinking, ensuring individualized care and coordinating care through effective partnerships.
  • Provide relationship‑based, patient‑centered care consistent with population‑specific characteristics and adapt service delivery to reflect cultural diversity.
  • Always partner with patient and significant others, using appropriate methods for setting and purpose (e.g., bedside shift report, interdisciplinary rounds, just‑in‑time and planned patient teaching, keeping the patient and significant others updated and making the patient’s goals the focus of the plan of care).
  • Practice using current clinical practice standards.

Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Coordinate delivery and documentation of safe quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model, including diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods, timely documentation, and a respectful, inclusive clinical environment.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration through fiscally responsible practice that promotes recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.
  • Participate and support performance improvement, research utilization, and shared governance at all system levels.

Professional Development and Initiative

  • Complete all initial and ongoing professional competency assessment, required mandatory education, and population‑specific education.
  • Serve as a preceptor and/or mentor for other nursing staff and students to ensure a qualified future workforce and model professional practice.

Evidence‑Based Practice and Research

  • Promote evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement, including value analysis in decision‑making processes for patient care products.
  • Uphold all health care system policies and procedures, clinical competencies, and regulatory requirements (e.g., TJC Patient Safety Goals).
  • Participate in data collection, pose relevant clinical questions, consult appropriate experts, and use evidence to address practice questions.

Resources and Support

  • Proactively plan for the care of patients across the continuum while providing direct patient care.
  • Participate in the development of protocols and procedures to achieve best‑practice outcomes (e.g., reduce readmission rates, avoidable days, adverse events).
  • Support efficient and effective use of human and material resources.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all Well Star Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Qualifications

Required Minimum Education

  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing or graduate from an accredited/approved nursing school – Required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing – Preferred.

Required Minimum Experience

  • Less than 1 year clinical experience after graduation – Required.
  • Direct patient care experience – Preferred.

Required Minimum Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (Single State) – Required.
  • RN – Multi‑State Compact – Required.
  • Basic Life Support – Required.
  • BLS – Instructor – Required.
  • BLS – Provisional – Required.

Additional Licenses and Certifications – None specified.
