The Professional Registered Nurse Inpatient Services RN CAP 1 is an entry‑level designation into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). The role is accountable for providing and coordinating clinically competent care, including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for an assigned group of patients. Responsibilities include delegating tasks to direct patient care staff (RNs, LVN/LPNs, Patient Care Technicians) and participating in decision‑making, teaching, leadership, and quality improvement activities that enhance patient outcomes and program operations.
PrincipalDuties and Responsibilities
- Performs all essential functions under the direction of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Educator, Preceptor, or another Registered Nurse.
- Collects and analyzes patient data pre‑, during‑, and post‑treatment, documents in the medical record, adjusts treatment plans as indicated, and notifies the Supervisor, Physician, and other designated personnel.
- Assesses learning needs of patients and families, and provides ongoing education.
- Recognizes abnormal patient status, reports, and collaborates with appropriate team members.
- Directs and provides safe, effective patient care for assigned patients per prescribed modality procedures.
- Assesses daily patient care needs and collaborates with direct and ancillary staff as needed.
- Initiates and coordinates communication with FKC and non‑FKC dialysis providers and facility personnel to ensure continuity of care.
- Administers intradialytic transfusions, monitors response, and notifies physician of adverse reactions.
- Administers medications as prescribed and documents justification and effectiveness.
- Assists with emergency response measures.
- Serves as a resource for the health care team and participates in staff training and orientation of new staff.
- Provides specialized nursing instruction to hospital/facility staff as contractually required.
- Assists in an outpatient facility on an as‑needed basis.
- Completes CAP requirements to advance.
- Performs all other duties assigned by the Supervisor.
- Provides direct patient care involving heavy lifting, moving patients, and assisting with ambulation.
- Requires frequent, prolonged standing and ability to bend over.
- May move machines and equipment up to 200 lbs and lift solutions up to 30 lbs.
- Works in a healthcare facility with controlled temperature and moderate noise levels.
- May be exposed to infectious materials.
- May perform essential functions at other locations with similar demands.
- Daily work includes desk tasks, computer work, and interaction with patients and healthcare staff.
- Requires travel to training and meeting sites.
- Participates in on‑call rotation, nights, weekends, holidays, or as defined by program needs.
Assigned oversight of Patient Care Technicians, LVN/LPNs, and RNs as Nurse‑in‑Charge after meeting the following requirements:
- Successful completion of all FKC education and modality‑specific training requirements.
- Minimum 9 months experience as a RN.
- Minimum 6 months acute dialysis experience as a RN.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current state licensure.
- Current or successful completion of CPR/BLS certification.
- Meets practice requirements in all states of employment.
- Entry‑level RN with less than 2 years of nephrology nursing experience.
- Minimum 9 months RN experience (12 months preferred).
- Minimum 6 months acute dialysis experience (preferred).
- Hemodialysis and/or ICU experience preferred.
