On-Call Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Repair Technician (Electrical & Mechanical Systems)

Location: Operates from Home Office | Dispatched to Job Sites

Schedule: On-Call / As-Needed (Emergency & Scheduled Repairs)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Repair Technician to join our team on an on-call basis. This role operates out of our home office and responds to dispatched job sites to diagnose, repair, and restore commercial kitchen exhaust systems.

This position is ideal for a hands-on technician with strong electrical and mechanical skills who is comfortable working independently, responding to emergency calls, and interfacing professionally with customers on-site.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair commercial kitchen exhaust systems, including:
    • Electric exhaust fans
    • Fan curbing, belts, and bearings
    • KEC (Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning)–related components
    • HVAC-adjacent exhaust equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical failures efficiently.
  • Wire, test, and troubleshoot commercial exhaust fans, including 3-phase power systems

  • Respond promptly to emergency and on-call repair requests
    , ensuring timely resolution.
  • Install fan hinge kits to allow safe fan access for cleaning and service.
  • Install and maintain rooftop grease containment systems (grease catch boxes).
  • Fabricate, modify, and repair sheet metal components to ensure proper fit and airflow integrity.
  • Work confidently in tight or elevated spaces while maintaining precision and safety.
  • Communicate findings and repair needs clearly with dispatch and customers.
  • Complete job documentation, photos, and service notes accurately.
Required Qualifications
  • Proven experience repairing or maintaining commercial exhaust, HVAC, or mechanical systems
    .
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot electrical systems
    , including:
    • Single-phase and 3-phase power
    • Motor wiring and controls
  • Mechanical aptitude with rotating equipment, belts, fans, and mounts.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams, basic schematics, and installation instructions.
  • Experience installing:
    • Fan hinge kits
    • Grease containment systems
    • Sheet metal components
  • Proper electrical certification or licensing required to perform commercial electrical work (local/state requirements apply).
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred (But Not Required)
  • Experience in commercial kitchen exhaust cleaning or fire/life-safety environments.
  • HVAC, electrical, or mechanical trade certifications.
  • Sheet metal fabrication experience.
  • Familiarity with rooftop safety protocols and fall protection.
  • Experience responding to emergency or on-call service work.
Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to climb ladders and access commercial rooftops safely.
  • Able to squat, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs. for at least 100 feet.
  • Comfortable standing and working up to 10 hours as needed.
  • Ability to work in heat, cold, wind, and outdoor conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail while working efficiently under time constraints.
