Position DetailsThe McHenry County Sheriff's Department Merit Commission is seeking applicants to create an eligibility list for the position of full-time Merited Sheriff's Deputy. A Sheriff's Deputy performs a variety of complex law enforcement duties and enforces Federal and State laws and County ordinances for the protection of life, health, safety, welfare and property. Deputies with the Sheriff's Office provide services through the Patrol, Investigations and Special Services Divisions.
Deputies who live in or within 15 air miles of McHenry County, within a bordering Illinois county (Boone, Cook, DeKalb, Lake, Kane & McHenry), are eligible for a take-home squad car. (Illinois residents only)
Orientation Session8:30 AM — November 22, 2026 — Huntley High School — 13719 Harmony Road — Huntley, IL. Doors will open at 8:00 AM.
A written exam will be conducted immediately following the orientation.
A physical ability test will be conducted following the written exam.
P.O.W.E.R. test cards will not be accepted.
