Public Works Laborer - Summer Seasonal

Position Summary

This seasonal, non-exempt hourly position is responsible for a wide variety of manual and semi-skilled labor to assist with Public Works operations. Work is performed under the supervision of the assigned Superintendent and the direction of the Foreman as applicable.

• Picks up trash and litter from rights of way, parking lots, parks and grounds.
• Assists the streets crew to repair pavement, fill potholes, make utility cuts, repair street/traffic signs, and perform concrete removal and replacement.
• Assists the utilities crew to clean and repair sewer lines and perform inspections.
• Performs landscaping and tree trimming tasks; mows grass and controls weeds.
• Cleans and maintains equipment.
• Assists with maintenance and preparation of ballfields at various city parks.
• Assists in special event coordination setup and preparation.
• Assists with maintenance activities, minor repairs and upkeep related to city facilities.
• Ensures all activities are carried out safely, adheres to all safety regulations, and follows all policies for reporting accidents.
• Maintains appropriate records, including equipment repair history, work orders, daily job cards, and other related data.
• Completes written records of labor and materials used for each work project.
• If assigned to the Fall Leaf Crew, rakes leaves for collection and operates leaf removal equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Must be age 18 or older.
• A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for eligibility of City coverage.

Starting pay rate of at least $18.62 per hour. No additional benefits except accrued sick leave—earn 1 hour for every 40 hours worked on a prorated basis and available for use after 100 calendar days of employment.
