Public Works Laborer - Summer Seasonal

POSITION SUMMARY and ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This position is responsible to perform a wide variety of manual and semi-skilled labor to assist with department operations. The work is performed under the supervision of the assigned Superintendent with direction from the Foreman, as applicable.

Based on the Public Works division to which the Seasonal worker is assigned, the essential functions may be:

• Picks up trash and litter from rights of way, parking lots, parks and public grounds.
• Assists the streets crew to repair pavement, fill potholes, make utility cuts, repair street/traffic signs and concrete removal and replacement.
• Assists the utilities crew to clean and repair sewer lines and perform inspections.
• Performs landscaping and tree trimming tasks. Mows grass and controls weeds.
• Cleans and maintains equipment.
• Assists with maintenance and preparation of ball fields at various city parks..
• Assists in special event coordination setup and preparation.
• Assists with maintenance activities, minor repairs and upkeep related to city facilities.
• Ensures all activities are carried out in a safe manner; adheres to all safety regulations; ensures all regulations pertaining to the safe use of equipment are understood and followed.
• Reports all accidents to the appropriate authority. Follows all policies for reporting.
• Maintains appropriate records including complete equipment repair history, work orders, daily job card and other related data.
• Completes written records of labor and materials used for each work project.
• and If on Fall Leaf Crew:
  Rakes leaves for collection, operates leaf removal equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Must be age 18 or older.
• A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for eligibility of City coverage.

PAY RATE

The position is a seasonal, non-exempt/hourly position with a starting pay rate of at least $18.62 per hour. No additional benefits with the exception of Accrued Sick Leave - earn 1 hour for every 40 hours worked on a prorated basis and available for use after 100 calendar days of employment.
