Finance & Accounting

The Plant Controller reports directly to the Director, Plant and Cost Accounting within the Corporate Controllers department and is a key business partner to the Plant General Manager. The role provides financial oversight, critical analysis, and actively identifies process improvement opportunities. The Plant Controller is responsible for timely and accurate financial and operational reporting, and for establishing an environment that ensures high levels of internal control over reporting practices.

The position establishes procedures to ensure that plant personnel are knowledgeable of and adhere to all financial policies.

The Plant Controller directs all financial activities related to accounting processes, annual planning, periodic spare parts reviews, fixed assets, maintenance activities, and budgeted or unplanned turnarounds. The role manages all internal and external audit requirements and supervises and directs the month‑end close process, preparing, reviewing, and verifying the accuracy of journal entries; accounting classifications; and account analysis. The incumbent is responsible for accurate Fixed Assets accounting, maintaining a close relationship with Maintenance and Engineering managers to track project progress, asset capitalizations, retirements, and establishing a thorough accrual review process.

The Plant Controller leads monthly cost review meetings, compares actual results to plan and prior periods, and uses data‑driven insights to improve business decisions. The incumbent supports quarterly and annual audits by providing requested documentation and analysis, prepares the annual budget and contributes to budget forecasting updates, oversees the preparation of cost statements, accounting statements and reports, and ensures production and accounts payable invoices are accurately recorded daily while supervising staff.

The role also communicates deviations from established policies to corporate personnel.

• Acts as a key financial reporting resource to corporate and local management
• Leads and supervises professional accounting and clerical staff
• Accounts for, manages, and reports on the local capital and maintenance spending process
• Performs and reviews the monthly inventory costing process
• Reconciles and reviews inventory through the local production reporting systems
• Manages local plant Accounts Payable function and analyzes monthly aging reports
• Makes recommendations and suggestions on best methods and strategies to streamline accounting and plant processes and implements those recommendations
• Reviews monthly journal entries and month‑end analyses
• Prepares exhibits and commentary required for reports issued to management, outside directors and government agencies
• Provides financial forecasting, budgeting, and analyzes variations from company budgets
• Reviews written procedures on job responsibilities
• Coordinates and prepares tax analysis and filings as determined by corporate tax and local authorities
