Job Summary:

The Maintenance Engineer provides engineering/technical expertise to the maintenance department and other plant departments as needed to maintain continuous plant operation and high efficiency. This position provides mechanical expertise to solve problems related to mechanical equipment, instrumentation, and preventive maintenance for routine, shutdown, and project activities. The Maintenance Engineer also serves as technical specialist for plant rotating equipment to achieve facility objectives.

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise for solving specific maintenance problems and assist other departments requiring engineering knowledge.
  • Assist in reviewing new rotating and reciprocating equipment prior to purchase and recommend proper selections, including spare parts lists.
  • Assist the Maintenance Manager and Planner with pre‑planning of all planned turnarounds, shutdowns, and special projects (timing, job lists, parts ordering, sequencing, crew sizing, overall scheduling).
  • During project execution, monitor progress and advise the Maintenance Manager daily.
  • Promote plant-wide standardization of commonly used items (pumps, valves, instruments) to simplify maintenance, reduce inventory, and lower manufacturing cost.
  • Communicate with production management on mechanical failures and offer solutions.
  • Prepare engineering designs and specifications for rotating equipment, process equipment, and piping for new or replacement installations.
  • Assist with the PSM Mechanical Integrity program for the Woodward Complex, maintaining existing procedures and training.
  • Manage capital projects and monitor Mechanical Integrity documentation in the plant CMMS.
  • Conduct technical investigations/audits or independent research into equipment and material failures, document findings, and make recommendations.
  • Assist Reliability Technicians with critical machinery and lubrication programs, guide and monitor effectiveness, and modify as needed.
  • Annually review the spare parts inventory, recommend adjustments to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Review and select outside contractors, negotiate contracts, and evaluate performance.
  • Assist management in developing and implementing departmental policies and procedures.
  • Provide mechanical advice to operations personnel and communicate work progress and schedules.
  • Prepare required reports and maintain records relative to the department.
  • Support site resources to reduce equipment failure impact and implement proactive equipment PM strategies.
  • Determine what maintenance can be performed on‑stream versus deferred to shutdown.
  • Provide engineering support for Management of Change processes and participate in revalidation of Process Hazard Analyses.
  • Develop repair/replacement work scopes to optimize life‑cycle cost and plant production.
  • Manage projects as necessary for plant support and participate in incident investigations.
  • Establish and implement internal controls, ensure compliance, identify deficiencies, and develop corrective actions.
Required Qualifications
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Mechanical engineering experience in a production, manufacturing, or plant environment.
  • Strong engineering knowledge and experience with rotating equipment.
  • Exposure to project management and implementation.
  • Solid communication skills: ability to converse in English, compose documents, and interact with peers and supervisors.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Effective organizational, time‑management, and communication skills.
  • Physical capability, availability, willingness, and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Good interpersonal and influential skills.
  • Strong computer‑related skills.
