POSITION SUMMARY: The Sewer Service Worker/Line Locator position ensures continuous sewer service for the citizens, makes repairs and adjustments, and performs water and wastewater line locates as required.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Constructs manholes for access to sewer lines using brick and cement on prefab structures.
- Conducts plant operations and maintenance.
- Performs water and wastewater line locates.
- Attends annual certification schools to maintain certification as required by DEQ.
- Communicates and responds, orally and in writing, to Foreman and /or Wastewater Superintendent with reference to information concerning department.
- Attends certification school to obtain Class D Water and Wastewater certifications as required by DEQ.
- schools/workshop to keep abreast of new methods for the sewer system.
- Maintains tools and equipment in safe working order.
- Actively participates in team skills training and development opportunities.
- Performs any assignments for other departments as needed.
Applicant must have the following qualifications:
- Ability to gain knowledge of equipment used in sewer plant and in doing sewer line maintenance.
- Ability to follow safety practices, as well as comprehend and apply basic safety principles when working in and around machinery.
- Ability to locate sewer lines/
- Possess skill in using various tools and equipment in making repairs and installations of sewer service.
- Possess mental alertness and adaptability to office and field area work routines.
- Exhibit a behavior that elevates morale and sets an example for other team members to follow.
- Possess verbal perception, motor coordination, eye-hand-foot coordination, and manual dexterity.
- Understand and practice the City of Woodward Personnel Policy Manual.
- Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.
- Ability to read, understand and communicate fluently in the English language.
- Ability to perform work operations which permit frequent opportunity for decision-making of minor importance, and which would not only affect the operating efficiency of the individual involved but would also affect the work operations of other employees and or clientele to slight degree.
- Ability to interact with the general public, patrons, or other outside representatives, wherein the manner in handling these contacts has a bearing on the organization’s position and operation.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
- Possess thorough knowledge of Water and Wastewater Departments, as well as Water/Sewer Service Worker functions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
- Ability to obtain a valid Class A or B CDL with tanker endorsement when training becomes available. Advancement or promotion will not occur without a Class B CDL.
- Ability to pass background screening.
- Ability to pass drug/alcohol screening.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to City’s insurance carrier.
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
