The Senior Library Expert performs skilled administrative tasks in support of the Center for Library Exploration and Research (CLEAR) department’s outreach, community engagement and data services. The SLE will assist in the CLEAR department’s work through the administration of CLEAR workshops, research initiatives and services, campus outreach and community engagement programs, and data accounts and catalog management. This role advances and supports the Library’s campus outreach and engagement in the community, and supports the Library’s data services.
Library union position, hybrid eligible.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities Provide administrative support for the department’s annual student research awards- schedule award meetings and organize awards ceremonies, guest hospitality
Provide administrative support for department-led research initiatives
Collect, maintain, and analyze CLEAR events and programs statistics in support of the department's activities
Create content about CLEAR Community Engagement activities for social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter)
Draft newsletters, and update websites to share community stories
Manage the purchasing of BUL orientation materials
Manage student and faculty data accounts and subscriptions
Liaison with data providers to resolve account queries and problems
Update and maintain the Data Catalog
- Organize, store, and update data records for datasets and products that we purchase, subscribe to, or create
Publish data to repositories
Provide technical support for students and faculty looking to deposit data into the catalog or locate specific datasets for their research
Maintain Libguide related to acquired data and the Data catalog
Internally promote and provide training in the use of the Data Catalog Perform regular audits and maintenance of the BUL Data catalog to ensure all records are accurate, discoverable, and up-to-date Apply and maintain high-quality metadata standards for data assets, ensuring compliance with institutional and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles
Streamline the process for researchers to deposit data into the catalog, providing technical troubleshooting and quality assurance
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of education and/or experience (e.g., associate’s degree plus two years of experience, or four years of experience)
One year experience gathering, organizing, and analyzing information from multiple sources
Highly effective time management and organizational skills
Good oral, written, and visual communication skills, including storytelling and media creation
Ability to perform detailed work accurately with reasonable speed and manage multiple project timelines
Ability to interpret complicated instructions and use judgment within established procedures
Ability to carry out position duties without close supervision
Computer skills using standard office technology (e.g., MS Office, Google Apps), in particular, desktop database tools (e.g., Excel, Access, Google Sheets)
Experience using database or repository software
Capacity to learn new technologies and systems necessary to maintain effective, continued job performance
Ability to interact favorably with co-workers, vendors, and other stakeholders
Strong problem-solving skills and experience with project planning or assessment
Successful completion of a pre-employment skills assessment may be required
