Project Manager – Highway and Heavy Civil Construction
This role leads multiple highway construction projects from preconstruction through final closeout, with a strong focus on DOT-funded work. The Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact for state transportation agencies and project stakeholders, oversees budgets and schedules, and ensures strict compliance with DOT specifications and contract requirements. The position plays a key leadership role in supporting critical infrastructure projects and contributes directly to the success and stability of a well-established regional contractor.
Responsibilities- Manage multiple highway and heavy civil construction projects from preconstruction through final closeout.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with state transportation agencies, inspectors, engineers, and other project stakeholders.
- Oversee project budgets, schedules, cost controls, forecasting, and change management to ensure financial and operational success.
- Ensure full compliance with DOT specifications, contract requirements, and all reporting standards throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare, review, and manage DOT billing, pay applications, and invoicing, including all required supporting documentation.
- Coordinate closely with superintendents, field crews, and operations teams to drive successful project execution in the field.
- Utilize HCSS Heavy Job to support field crew management and production tracking, ensuring accurate and timely project data.
- Use HCSS Heavy Bid for estimate review and job cost comparison to support sound financial decisions and project controls.
- Monitor project performance metrics, identify risks and issues, and implement timely corrective actions to keep projects on track.
- Maintain high standards for safety, quality, and regulatory compliance across all assigned projects.
- Participate actively in project meetings, internal reviews, and leadership updates, providing clear and accurate project reporting.
- Support planning, scheduling, and resource allocation across active projects to optimize labor, equipment, and materials.
- Collaborate with owners, inspectors, subcontractors, and internal teams to foster strong relationships and effective communication.
- Support and mentor field operations teams by providing clear direction, resolving issues, and reinforcing best practices.
- 4–7+ years of experience as a Project Manager in highway or heavy civil construction.
- Proven experience managing state DOT–funded projects from start to finish.
- Highway project experience in horizontal, roadway, and highway construction (must have).
- Strong understanding of DOT billing, invoicing, and documentation requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Hands‑on project management and project coordination experience in construction environments.
- Experience with change order management and cost control on construction projects.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with owners, inspectors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Experience working closely with field operations and construction crews to support daily project execution.
- Solid construction and construction management knowledge, particularly in highway and heavy civil work.
This is a Permanent position based out of Woonsocket, RI.
Pay And BenefitsPay range for this position is $100000.00 - $150000.00 per year.
