Job Description:

  • Staff Athletic Trainers (ATs) work under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Athletics for Sports Medicine and Team Physician to provide health care to approximately 600 varsity student-athletes competing in a variety of varsity athletic teams.
  • Salve''s staff of four full-time Athletic Trainers provide injury and illness prevention, wellness promotion and education, emergency care, examination, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions for the University''s varsity student-athletes in the Athletic Training Clinic and on the field.
  • The Athletic Trainer will serve as the primary Athletic Training services provider for teams to be determined by the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine, which includes some travel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide medical coverage for practices and competitions as deemed necessary by the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine, including travel for some contests., including travel for some away contests.
  • Regular evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and referral of varsity student-athletes'' injuries and conditions.
  • Documentation of injuries, therapy, referrals, and other pertinent interactions.
  • Provide communication between student-athletes, coaches, Team Physician, and administrators as appropriate.
  • Assist with inventory, ordering, and maintenance of the Sports Medicine department supplies and equipment.
  • Provide supervision and training for student workers in the Athletic Training Room.
  • Referral to and communication with appropriate external healthcare practitioners.

OTHER

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Comply with OSHA regulations that pertain to blood-borne pathogens.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletics Director for Sports Medicine or Director of Athletics.
  • Work closely with internal support personnel to include the Athletic Administration, Sports Information Director, Office Coordinator, Compliance Officer and Game Management Supervisor in the performance of their duties.
  • In particular, all coaches and athletics personnel are charged with being knowledgeable of, an assuring and monitoring compliance by all student-athletes, staff and assistant coaches with applicable governing constitutions, by-laws, rules, policies, interpretations and regulations of the NCAA, NEWMAC and appropriate athletic conferences, and the University. Staff members shall immediately advise the compliance Officer if there is reason to believe that violations have occurred or will occur and shall cooperate fully in any investigation of possible NCAA or Conference violations.
  • Attend department meetings, designated events, and when appropriate, Admissions Open Houses.

LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

  • Valid driver''s license.
  • Must possess current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.
  • BOC Certification.
  • Rhode Island Athletic Training License (to be obtained before the date of hire)
  • Appropriate Emergency Cardiac Care certification as required by the BOC

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The incumbent is subject to both inside and outside work and could encounter extreme weather conditions.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This position is a full-time, 35-hour per week, 10-months per year, Non-Academic Year position.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor''s Degree in Athletic Training or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of injury evaluation, rehabilitation, emergency care, and evidence-based clinical practice.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as required.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication, and computer skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and relate well to students.
  • Strong work ethic, passion for the profession, and commitment to student-athletes.
