Job DescriptionFunction: To develop a comprehensive individualized educational program for students who are assigned for case management. Implement academic and behavioral programs within one content/subject area for which highly qualified status exists. Promote inclusion initiatives consistent with Woonsocket High School goals.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provide a basic core program for identified students consistent with state education requirements and students’ IEP.
- Develop and implement IEP goals and objectives based on evaluation results.
- Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects in order to communicate these objectives to the students.
- Employ instructional methods and materials that are deemed appropriate for accomplishing stated objective.
- Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct, and, for the classroom, develop responsible rules of classroom behavior and procedures, and maintain order in the classroom environment in a fair and just manner.
- Plan and supervise purposeful assignments of teacher assistant(s).
- Provide social skills training for students in conjunction with goals and objectives in the IEP to assist students in forming positive relationships with peers and adults.
- Recommend placement in the least restrictive environment in a timely fashion to the building principal/IEP Team/ET case‑manager/Director of Special Education, in accordance with state regulations.
- Provide instruction in all areas of the students’ academic strengths and weaknesses.
- Administer and score educational evaluations or reevaluations.
- Complete appropriate special education records.
- Consult with administrators, teachers, and parents regarding students and/or problems.
- Participate in eligibility team meetings and IEP meetings when scheduled.
- Provide appropriate materials to enable the student to realize goals and objectives stated in the IEP.
- May coordinate and supervise other special education services being provided to students.
- Confer frequently with parents and professional staff members regarding the educational, social, and adjustment problems of the students.
- Assist other professional staff in resolving the unique educational, psychological and/or discipline needs of students.
- Assist the student and/or parents in making realistic assessments of the student’s abilities and in establishing educational and occupational goals in keeping with those abilities.
- Provide motivation to students who have difficulty attending in the classroom and/or who have difficulty engaging themselves in educationally related activities.
- Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities provided by the Woonsocket Education Department and/or self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Maintain accurate records for state reports.
- Adhere to policies of confidentiality and use discretion regarding pupil data.
- May communicate with outside agencies which are providing services to the student and/or research available student services.
- Participate in and conduct staff development activities.
- Develop, monitor, and evaluate curriculum in an on‑going manner.
- Make recommendations for supplies, equipment, and materials.
- Assume responsibility for building duties as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Director or building principal.
- RIDE Certification 6‑12 Special Education or willingness to obtain an emergency certification
- Math Certification 6‑12 preferred
- Previous experience as a Special Educator
- Strong background in teaching science
- MLL Certification preferred
- Right to Read Proficiency Certificate required
