Position DescriptionA qualified Childcare Lead Teacher in Rhode Island – a highly trained early childhood professional responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children. This role requires meeting the Rhode Island Department of Human Services (DHS) or Department of Education (RIDE) qualifications, including formal education in early childhood education, supervised teaching experience, and ongoing professional development.
The Lead Teacher plans and implements engaging curriculum aligned with state early learning standards (RIELDS), supports children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development, and adapts instruction to meet diverse learning needs. They maintain a structured yet flexible classroom environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and positive behavior.
In addition to working directly with children, the Lead Teacher supervises assistant teachers, ensures compliance with state licensing regulations, maintains accurate records, and communicates effectively with families about children’s progress and well-being. Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills are essential, along with a deep understanding of child development and a commitment to fostering inclusive and supportive learning spaces.
This position plays a critical role in shaping early educational experiences and building a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
Qualifications- Education in early childhood (CDA, Associate’s, or Bachelor’s)
- Classroom teaching experience
- CPR/First Aid + background checks
- Training in RI standards (RIELDS)
