Phlebotomist

Responsibilities

• Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection, including donor set‑up, monitoring, and disconnect.
• Perform venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process in compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines.
• Evaluate vein performance, make necessary corrections to expedite donation and ensure product quality and donor safety.
• Educate new donors on therapeutic products made from donated plasma, screening processes, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, proper nutrition, and any other pertinent information.
• Maintain alertness to donor reactions and assist or notify appropriate staff.
• Use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents such as machine alerts, volume variances, and donor adverse events.
• Perform calibrations, verify maintenance, and respond to complex equipment alarms or donor issues.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures and create incident documentation, removing or replacing equipment as needed.
• Monitor donor flow to assure continuous turnover and alert leadership of any issues.
• Collect arm or whole blood samples from donors for testing.
• Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system per SOPs.
• Understand policies for hyper‑immune programs if applicable.
• Maintain a clean, efficient work environment and ensure sufficient supplies and forms are available. Follow HSE, OSHA policies and promote safety.
• Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor and center information.
• May be cross‑trained in other areas to meet business needs.
• Bilingual skills may be required based on organizational discretion.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Internal CSL employees: must have completed the CSL Plasma DST training.
• External candidates: minimum 6 months’ experience as a phlebotomist; one year preferred.
• Minimum twelve (12) months in a medical or health‑care environment preferred, or equivalent education and experience.

• Complete routine forms or conduct oral communications.
• Understand, remember and apply oral and/or written instructions.
• See and speak with customers and observe equipment operation.
• Stand and walk up to 100% of the time.
• Reach, bend, kneel and maintain high manual dexterity.
• Lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
• Fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions.
• Frequently exposed to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures and blood‑borne pathogens.
• Wear Personal Protective Equipment when required.
• Work overtime and extended hours to support operational needs.

The expected base pay for this position at hiring is $18.68/hour – $20.39/hour. Pay within this range is determined by qualifications, skill level, experience, competencies and other factors.
