Dietary Aides play a vital part in enhancing the daily lives of our residents by assisting with food preparation, serving nutritious meals, and maintaining a clean, welcoming dining environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Prepare and serve meals, snacks, and beverages in accordance with specific dietary guidelines, tray cards, and established facility protocols.
- Ensure accurate portion control and strict adherence to specialized, therapeutic, or texture-modified diets (e.g., pureed, low-sodium, diabetic).
- Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen, dining area, and dishwashing station in compliance with Rhode Island Department of Health and federal regulations.
- Wash and store dishes, utensils, and culinary equipment properly.
- Handle, date, and store food properly to meet all safety and sanitation standards.
- Assist with inventory monitoring, stocking pantry supplies, and proper waste disposal.
- Communicate warmly and effectively with residents, families, and staff regarding dietary preferences and needs.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Prior experience in food service, institutional dining, or a healthcare/skilled nursing facility is preferred.
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets, food handling protocols, and safety standards.
- Serv Safe Certification or a Rhode Island Food Safety Manager Certification is a strong plus.
- Ability to read, understand, and accurately follow recipe instructions, diet orders, and safety labels.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a patient and empathetic approach toward elderly and rehabilitating residents.
- Must successfully pass a standard background check and meet all state health and immunization requirements for healthcare workers in Rhode Island.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by the facility.
