Nurse Practitioner

The faculty nurse practitioner is responsible for providing primary medical care, within the limits of the training of a nurse practitioner, to assigned patients. The nurse practitioner is a licensed, autonomous provider executing professional clinical judgment in the care of Thundermist patients, according to the guidelines, policies and procedures set forth by Thundermist Health Center, and in accordance with the precepting terms agreed upon by both Thundermist and the University of RI.

Required qualifications include:

  • RI RN and NPP licensure
  • ANA certification in the specialty of practice (family medicine, internal medicine, women's health, or pediatrics)
  • Ongoing CEU to update skills/therapies

Physical effort/environment includes moderate physical activity: walking, standing, and stooping. Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens, respiratory disease, and other infectious diseases, and other biohazards material requiring universal standard precautions for medical practitioners. Manual dexterity needed for certain medical procedures. Clinical environment in ambulatory based settings and home-based care.

Work schedule demands are per diem. This is a float position, and will include shifts in Woonsocket, West Warwick and Wakefield, Rhode Island.

Communication skills include exceptional oral and written skills needed. Proficient in all applicable medical terminology. Bilingual capacity in Spanish or Laotian is a plus. Good interpersonal skills are needed.

Confidentiality of information includes access to all medical records and select clinical quality data.

Significant job functions include:

  • Clinical: patient care – history, physical exam, anticipatory education/guidance in pediatrics, management of acute and chronic illness
  • Maintenance of complete/accurate patient records
  • Accountable for patient care provided and supervision of nurse practitioner students assigned
  • Administrative: peer chart review on rotating basis
  • Participation in departmental, and team meetings
  • TBD
