Job Summary

Being responsible for the development of independent account business, with emphasis on overall profitability through both new sales and account penetration. Promote and sell company branded products and meet brand sales objectives. May also support customer service activities for regional and/or national chain customers, thereby increasing the company's visibility in the marketplace and maximizing market share. Perform as a team member within the department and organization as required, and perform any duty assigned to best serve the company.

Responsibilities
  • Generate additional business through analyzing sales territory and individual customers; sampling products with existing and potential customers; planning general sales strategy including time and territory management; planning sales approach with individual customers; and conducting effective sales presentations.
  • Grow sales and profit margins on an ongoing basis to meet established sales and margin goals.
  • Set up new customer accounts by determining pricing; work with the Credit Department for initial authorization; coordinate with other center personnel for scheduling order-taking, deliveries, etc.; perform initial follow-up with customers to ensure delivery and product satisfaction.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by providing an exemplary level of service by working closely with other center personnel to coordinate efforts to prevent and resolve customer problems; may be personally responsible for making deliveries in emergency situations.
  • Build additional business with current customers through product penetration in order to maximize profitability of individual accounts.
  • Minimize accounts receivable problems by monitoring accounts for compliance with credit terms and following up on any problems.
  • Maintain awareness of pricing trends within sales territory, particularly on market-driven/commodity products, to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Details

Sales territory covers Coastal Lowlands areas of Rhode Island, from Westerly, RI to Kingston, RI.

Must live in southern Rhode Island area and be able to cover the territory.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • 6-12 months sales/marketing and/or restaurant experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years related outside sales experience or a culinary/restaurant management background.
  • Experience in food service distribution sales is a plus.
  • Strong preference for candidates who can cover the job territory from Westerly to Kingston.
