Police Officer Probationary

Under general supervision, enforces laws and ordinances, maintains order, prevents crime, makes arrests, and performs related duties.

• Age 18 or older
• US citizen
• Valid driver’s license
• No felony convictions
• High school diploma or GED equivalent

• Effect an arrest forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and restraints.
• Subdue resisting suspects using maneuvers and weapons; resort to use of hands and feet, and other approved weapons in self‑defense.
• Prepare investigative reports, including sketches, using correct grammar, symbols, mathematics, and computer use.
• Exercise judgment on reasonable suspicion, probable cause, search and arrest, and use of force.
• Operate a law‑enforcement vehicle at all times, including in emergency high‑speed, congested, and hazardous conditions.
• Communicate effectively over radio channels.
• Gather information in investigations by interviewing victims, witnesses, suspects, and confidential informers.
• Pursue fleeing suspects and perform rescue operations, including rapid entry and exit of patrol vehicles.
• Lifting, carrying, and dragging heavy objects and navigating obstacles.
• Reload and fire from various body positions, meeting proficiency standards.
• Search people, vehicles, buildings, and outdoor areas, including tactile searches.
• Conduct visual and audio surveillance for extended periods.
• Perform patrol functions, including shift rotations, foot patrol and securing buildings.
• Effectively communicate with the public.

• Probationary Rate: $1,011.96 per week
• Step 1: $1,384.02 per week
• Step 2: $1,411.69 per week
• Grade: P9
