Costume Designer/Costume Shop Supervisor – The College of Wooster

- Design and supervise costume design for two departmental theatre productions, two dance concerts, and provide costuming support for senior thesis productions each year.
- Oversee the daily operations of the costume shop, including construction, fittings, alterations, repairs, and maintenance of dressing rooms and facilities.
- Manage costume inventory, budgeting, and safety compliance for the shop.
- Mentor and supervise student shop workers, scholarship recipients, and practicum students.
- Act as liaison with the Ohio Light Opera regarding use of the Freed lander Theatre costume shop and inventory.
- Teach one course per year in areas such as Costume Design, Costume History, Costume Construction, Stage Make‑up and Wigs, or other areas of expertise.
- Attend all production meetings, design presentations, run‑throughs, dress rehearsals, and opening nights.
- Maintain, clean, organize, and repair costumes during runs, and coordinate with department personnel on costume issues.
- Ensure proper disposal and return of costume pieces to stock after closing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education and/or
Experience:
Master of Fine Arts or Master of Arts in Costume Design, Theatre Design, or closely related field. Experience in makeup design is desirable. Prior experience in costume design, construction, and shop management in higher education, including budgeting and safety compliance. - Teaching
Experience:
University‑level teaching experience and ability to deliver courses as per department needs. - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to read and analyze theatrical scripts, business documents, and technical procedures; to write reports, speeches, and manuscripts; to present information to diverse audiences; to calculate financial figures; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams); establish and enforce costume shop safety guidelines; demonstrate cultural sensitivity and prevent cultural appropriation; provide safety training for students and staff.
