As a Lead Teacher, you'll take a leadership role in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom where children can learn, grow, and thrive. You'll plan meaningful learning experiences, monitor each child's development, build strong partnerships with families, and help ensure the classroom meets Head Start, childcare licensing, and program requirements.

What You’ll Do Classroom Leadership & Early Learning
  • Lead the daily operation of the classroom with a strong focus on the health, safety, and well-being of children.
  • Plan and implement weekly curriculum and developmentally appropriate individual and group learning experiences.
  • Create a safe, engaging classroom environment that supports children's development and school readiness.
  • Incorporate Conscious Discipline® techniques into daily classroom schedules and routines.
  • Develop transition plans and support children and families as they prepare for their next educational setting.
Child Development & Individualized Support
  • Conduct required screenings and assessments within established time frames.
  • Establish, monitor, and maintain individual child goals, including IEP goals, and follow up as appropriate.
  • Maintain child assessments, written observations, work samples, and other required documentation.
  • Review screening and assessment results and make appropriate referrals to Quality Assurance staff.
  • Maintain complete and accurate child records in accordance with program requirements.
Family Engagement & Communication
  • Schedule, prepare for, and conduct parent-teacher conferences and home visits.
  • Build strong, positive partnerships with families and encourage active participation in their child's learning.
  • Maintain effective communication with families, classroom team members, and other program staff.
  • Connect families with appropriate Head Start and Community Action services and resources.
Compliance & Program Operations
  • Monitor compliance with Head Start Performance Standards, childcare licensing requirements, agency policies, and other applicable rules and regulations.
  • Serve as center administrator related to ODJFS regulations and Step Up To Quality requirements.
  • Review Medical Care Plans and Requests for Administration of Medication prior to a child's entry and as needed.
  • Support required classroom and program quality assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records related to applicable program funds and expenditures.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a closely related field in education or family/consumer science. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • At least one year of experience responsible for the education and care of children from birth through age five.
