Salary Range: $20.45 To $26.94 Hourly
SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST (OPERATING ROOM and ENDOSCOPY)
MAIN FUNCTION:
Functions as a member of the surgical team by preparing and maintaining the sterile field, handling instruments and supplies, and assisting the surgeon, RN, and other healthcare team members during surgical procedures. Assists in the care, preparation, cleaning, and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile equipment.
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Department Clinical Manager, Surgery Charge Nurse
- Able to respond to WCH within 30 minutes when on call.
- Current BLS certification must be maintained while in this position.
- Demonstrated knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and operating room procedures.
- Completion of a surgical technology training program, military surgical technology training, healthcare-related training, or equivalent on-the-job training and demonstrated competency.
- Ability to successfully complete facility orientation and competency validation for assigned surgical procedures and responsibilities.
- Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist, Operating Room Technician, Surgical Scrub Technician, OB Technician, or related perioperative role.
- Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential or other nationally recognized surgical technology certification.
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) experience in a surgical setting.
- a. Verifies correct sponge, tape, needle, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure.
- b. Assists the RN in receiving the patient in the operating room and verifies patient identification and required documentation.
- c. Assists the RN in assessing and supporting the patient's physical and emotional needs according to age and developmental status.
- d. Assembles necessary supplies and equipment and verifies proper functioning prior to procedures.
- e. Assists in positioning the patient and preparing the operative site.
- f. Utilizes aseptic and sterile technique while setting up instruments and supplies according to procedure.
- g. Gowns and gloves members of the surgical team according to sterile technique standards.
- h. Assists the surgeon and surgical team during procedures by anticipating operative needs.
- i. Prepares sterile dressings and supplies according to procedure.
- j. Clears the sterile field and properly disposes of linen, instruments, sharps, and needles in designated areas.
- k. Participates in room turnover, cleaning, stocking, and preparation for subsequent procedures.
- l. Maintains competencies and participates in continuing education as required by the organization.
Monday to Friday with weekday, weekend, holiday call rotation
40 hours a week plus call
