Job Summary
The buyer is responsible for procuring components to support production and customer needs, along with inventory control. Reports to Purchasing Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Plan, order, and manage incoming goods/services from select suppliers to achieve cost and service objectives.
- Select suppliers to best fulfill Akron Brass needs (price, delivery, quality, etc.).
- Work within the capacity of a service organization, resolve daily operating issues with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Analyze and recommend opportunities for cost reduction, supplier value‑added resources, inventory management, and quality enhancement.
- Drive customer satisfaction, both external and internal, through timely results on situational needs.
- Manage supplier relationships to best achieve predetermined goals including implementing and overseeing supplier‑specific strategies.
- Assist in the negotiation of price and terms/conditions, basic understanding of contract management and driving to agreed goals.
- Assist in the evaluation of preferred suppliers.
- Identify opportunities for process development, personally and inter‑departmentally.
- Identify opportunities for inventory improvement (lead time, MOQ, reorder point).
- Strong organizational skills.
- Requires high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills, with ability to communicate with technical resources.
- Demonstrated ability to thoroughly follow through with appropriate urgency.
- Strong problem‑solving skills.
- Working understanding of prints and machining processes.
- Associate’s degree in Business Administration (or related degree) or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years’ experience in a purchasing role.
- Experience with machined components preferred.
