Under general direction, the Materials Supervisor supervises hourly shop employees in a heavy production environment. Plans and assigns work, implements policies and procedures, and recommends improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures, working conditions and other production-related activities.
Responsible for the safety of employees, quality, and efficiency of production while ensuring on‑time delivery. Reports to the Sr. Supply Chain Manager.
Essential Functions Of The Job- Direct and supervise assigned production and materials employees following established procedures and approved processes, including but not limited to performance appraisals, hiring, employee relations, attendance, and timecard maintenance, coaching and training as needed.
- Provide leadership and training to accomplish the Company goals and objectives.
- Supervise the activities of the production floor under the direction of the Sr. Supply Chain Manager.
- Supervise activities and personnel working in material handling / kitting, shipping and receiving.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate departmental activities to fulfill sales orders and production schedules, meet inventory accuracy requirements, and deliver manufacturing materials to the work centers in a timely manner.
- Balance safety, quality, productivity, cost, and morale to achieve positive results in all areas; work to continuously improve in all areas.
- Initiate process improvements independently and follow them through to ensure they are sustained.
- Monitor plant performance for production and quality standards.
- Determine staffing levels and manpower schedules based on workload and process flows; control and minimize labor overtime, premium freight, and repair expenses.
- Incorporate shop floor organization, Lean techniques, and plant cleanliness.
- Maintain and enforce safety standards; report any safety concerns to leadership immediately.

- Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop, evaluate, and implement options and solutions.
- Ability to set work schedules, by department, to ensure manpower is available to meet production schedule.
- Strong planning skills with the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, operator’s manuals, and assembly instructions.
- Ability to use hand and power tools, perform basic measurements, and operate material handling equipment.
- Proficiency with personal computers, including standard office software (MS Office); strong understanding of ERP and MRP. Experience with JD Edwards desired.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong people skills; ability to present information and interact with all levels.
- Demonstrated leadership skills; able to solve problems, persuade, motivate, and train others.
- Physically capable of standing/walking for 10+ hour shifts.
- Able to work irregular and/or extended hours, including weekends as needed; limited travel, as necessary.
- Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field of study preferred.
- Three to five years of practical industrial manufacturing experience, preferably in welding, assembly, machining and fabrication, and/or material handling / material flow.
- Minimum of one-year previous supervisory experience required.
- Previous experience with robotic welding and/or automated laser cutting strongly preferred.
- Previous work experience in a Lean manufacturing environment highly desired.
- Background in manufacturing methods, process improvement programs and procedures, and thorough knowledge of mechanical principles.
