Position SummaryThe Journeyman Electrician is responsible for all operational, oversight, and installation aspects of the assigned job. Ensures that the work is in accordance with relevant codes.
Responsibilities- Assist the site superintendent of all employees assigned to a specific work area of the job.
- Complete all required paperwork, such as packing slips, work order forms, two‑week look‑ahead, change requests, timecards, and material requisition/return sheets.
- Perform weekly safety training for all employees assigned to the job (tailgate/toolbox training).
- Maintain consistent communication with the site superintendent.
- Gather tools and supplies for the work site according to instructions.
- Maintain truck inventories and assist in unloading and shelving materials on incoming trucks as needed.
- Transport tools, materials, equipment, and supplies to work sites if necessary.
- Assist in lifting, positioning, and fastening objects such as wiring, conduit, and motors.
- Follow diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring. Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable installations, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
- Inspect systems and electrical parts to detect hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments and repair. Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits using testing devices such as an ohmmeter, voltmeter, oscilloscope, and amp meter.
- Observe functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and the need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools.
- Trace out short circuits in wiring using knowledge of wiring and test meter.
- Install control and distribution apparatus, such as switches, relays, and circuit‑breaker panels.
- Connect power cables to equipment and install grounding leads.
- Perform minor repairs such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches using hand tools.
- Maintain tools and equipment, wash parts, and keep supplies and parts in order. Perform general housekeeping of the work site.
- Adhere to and enforce all safety policies and procedures of Kelso Industries.
- If driving a personal or company vehicle for business, absolute no cell phone use is permitted.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Certified Journeyman Electrician with a minimum of 6 years commercial/industrial experience. Previous foreman experience is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a certified apprenticeship program.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret blueprints and specifications.
- Ability to assist in the supervision of a crew and/or instruct apprentices, and work with construction management teams.
- Proficient math, measuring, communication, and reading skills.
- OSHA 30‑hour certification.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate strong time‑management skills.
- Ability to operate various types of man lifts.
- Obtained Fire Alarm License.
- Accurate project material and manpower estimation.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must have own tools of professional quality.
- Heavy lifting.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Some bending/stooping.
- Ability to safely use a ladder using the three‑point rule.
- Ability to work outdoors regardless of weather conditions.
