Senior Accountant – Onsite, Worcester MA (Full-Time, 5 Days/Week)

An established nonprofit organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its finance team and support organizational growth, operational excellence, and regulatory compliance. This role is fully on-site in Worcester, MA, Monday through Friday.
AboutThe Role
In this role, you will serve as a key contributor to the organization’s financial operations. You’ll oversee core accounting functions, support audits, strengthen internal controls, and provide financial insights that help leadership make informed decisions. You will also play a central role in maintaining accuracy across monthly close activities, grant compliance, and program-level financial analysis.
Key Responsibilities General Accounting & Reporting- Lead monthly and year-end close processes, including preparing and posting journal entries and reconciling general ledger accounts.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to support internal leadership and external reporting requirements.
- Maintain detailed accounting schedules and supporting documentation for audits and management review.
- Monitor program budgets, track restricted funds, and ensure proper allocation across funding sources.
- Assist with preparation of grant financial reports, reimbursement requests, and compliance documentation.
- Strengthen internal control processes and ensure compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.
- Prepare audit schedules and liaise with external auditors for annual financial audits and federally required audits.
- Perform variance analysis on budget versus actual results and identify trends or risks.
- Provide financial insights to support planning, forecasting, and decision-making.
- Oversee credit card expense monitoring, receipt collection, and account reconciliations.
- Review accounts payable coding, documentation accuracy, and cost allocations for grants or internal programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 4–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a nonprofit, grant-funded, or multi-program environment.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal control frameworks.
- Experience preparing financial statements, audit schedules, and reconciling complex accounts.
- Proficiency with accounting software and Excel; experience with nonprofit fund accounting systems is helpful.
- Strong analytical ability, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- 100% on-site, Monday through Friday (5 days in office).
