We’re partnering with a growing global software organization in Boston’s Seaport area that is looking to add a Director of Accounting to its finance leadership team.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys owning the core accounting function while also improving processes, developing teams, and helping build a more scalable accounting environment. The position will have broad responsibility across day-to-day accounting operations, close, reporting, controls, systems, and audit support, with significant visibility across the finance organization.
What You’ll Do- Lead key areas of the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Oversee general ledger accounting, reconciliations, payroll-related accounting, AP, and other core accounting functions
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Review financial statements, account reconciliations, journal entries, and supporting schedules
- Lead and develop members of the accounting team
- Partner closely with FP&A and other cross-functional teams across the organization
- Support annual audits and maintain strong internal controls and compliance processes
- Identify opportunities to improve close timelines, reporting accuracy, and overall accounting efficiency
- Help optimize accounting systems and workflows as the organization continues to scale
- Drive greater consistency and standardization across accounting processes
- Support broader finance initiatives and special projects as needed
The role is intended to combine day-to-day accounting leadership with process improvement and scalability as the organization continues to evolve.
What We’re Looking ForWe’re looking for an experienced accounting leader with a strong foundation in core accounting operations and a track record of taking on increasing responsibility throughout their career.
Ideal candidates will bring:
- Approximately 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
- A strong foundation in public accounting followed by meaningful industry experience
- Prior accounting leadership experience at the Manager, Controller, Director, or similar level
- Strong experience with general ledger accounting, reconciliations, close, and financial reporting
- Experience overseeing or partnering closely with payroll and accounts payable functions
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal controls
- Experience leading and developing accounting teams
- A demonstrated ability to improve processes and build more scalable accounting workflows
- Strong communication skills and the ability to partner effectively across Finance and the broader business
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment
A CPA is strongly preferred, and prior public accounting experience is highly desirable. Experience with in SaaS, software, technology, or another complex corporate environment would be a plus, but the broader accounting leadership background is most important.
Systems ExperienceExperience with
Net Suite or another major ERP is highly desirable, particularly for someone who has helped improve or optimize how the system is used within an accounting organization. Familiarity with reporting, consolidation, or FP&A tools is also a plus.
