Overview
Biblio Temps® is an employment service of the Massachusetts Library System that provides experienced library workers for temporary placements in public, academic, and special libraries throughout Massachusetts.

Location: American Antiquarian Society (Worcester, MA)
Schedule: 12 hours per week;
Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9AM – 1PM
Pay Rate: $17.50 per hour
CORI: Not required
Description: The receptionist is a shared position among several part-time employees that provides the initial introduction to the Society for all individuals entering the main library building—including visitors, readers, guests, and vendors. The receptionist is responsible for greeting, registering, and processing all individuals in a professional, courteous, and welcoming manner, while maintaining security and AAS library protocols.
Responsibilities- Prepare desk and reception area for daily opening and closing.
- Greet, assist, and check in all visitors upon entry according to established security and protocol procedures including signing registers, assigning lockers, locker key distribution, and new reader preparation.
- Maintain and enforce established security and emergency protocols.
- Act as liaison between visitors and AAS staff/departments.
- Answer the AAS main phone line and transfer calls to appropriate departments or individuals.
- Answer general information inquiries about AAS and Worcester for visitors and readers.
- Accept, and sign for, packages and mail.
- Maintain visitor register and ensure people sign in as they enter and exit the building.
- Monitor and maintain displays in orientation room and on reception desk; monitor donations box as well.
- Work on various projects as assigned during down time and slow periods.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Windows, Office suite, etc.) and familiarity with office phone systems.
- Ability to read, understand, speak, and write in Standard English; ability to communicate effectively in English with individuals in person, over the telephone, and via the printed word.
Education/Experience
- 2+ years related experience.
- High School Diploma/GED or higher
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
- Occasional periods of climbing or balancing, pulling/pushing items/hand trucks, lifting/carrying items weighing up to approximately thirty pounds, and reaching with arms and hands.
- The use of hands for basic grasping/manipulation, fine manipulation, occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, and keyboarding.
- Physical duties are subject to change.
- May be exposed to dust, mold, and/or other organic material. Hazards are considered minor and controllable.
