Biblio Temps® is an employment service of the Massachusetts Library System that provides experienced library workers for temporary placements in public, academic, and special libraries throughout Massachusetts.

The Library Assistant will be responsible for the operational maintenance of the school library. The primary goal of this position is to ensure that circulation remains active, new materials are integrated into the collection promptly, and the physical environment remains organized and welcoming for students and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Circulation & Collection Maintenance
- System Management:
Check-in returned materials using the Integrated Library System (ILS) and clear any holds or overdue alerts. - Shelving:
Accurately return books to their proper locations. - Inventory Care:
Identify and pull damaged books for repair or withdrawal.
- System Management:
- Technical Processing (New Acquisitions)
- Physical Processing:
Apply barcodes, spine labels, and school property stamps to new materials. - Data Entry:
Maintain a log of new arrivals to assist the future permanent librarian in tracking the year’s acquisitions.

- Administrative & Managerial Tasks
- Space Curation:
Update 1–2 small featured book displays to keep the library looking active and engaging despite the staffing transition. - Reporting:
Keep a brief weekly Status Log for the administration, noting any system issues, significant missing items, or facility needs (e.g., broken chairs, lighting).
- Space Curation:
- Experience: Previous experience in a library setting or high-level clerical role is preferred. Experience with copy cataloging is preferred.
- Technical
Skills:
Proficiency with database management – Follet Destiny. - Communication: Ability to work independently and provide clear hand-over notes for the eventual permanent hire.
