Position: Mobile Inspector II (Manheim)

Job Overview

Mobile Inspector II – member of the Manheim mobile inspections team for a designated region. Primary responsibility is to conduct vehicle condition inspections on a client’s lot, providing accurate and complete documentation within the parameters of a Manheim inspection.

Compensation & Benefits

Hourly rate: $16.83 – $25.29/hour (range may vary by location and experience). Eligible for an annual incentive/commission target of $6,000. Sign‑on bonus of $1,000 paid after 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough vehicle inspections on client’s lot; locate, start, move, inspect, and return vehicles safely.
  • Verify vehicle identification and enter accurate information into the inspection system (VIN, mileage, sub‑series).
  • Inspect equipment and options; document damage, missing, or inoperable items.
  • Inspect exterior condition – tires, frame, glass, panels, mechanical components.
  • Inspect interior condition – seats, dashboard, options.
  • Perform basic mechanical checks – powertrain, drivetrain, electrical components.
  • Prepare and provide daily activity reports to management.
  • Adapt to changes in daily appointments to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop strong knowledge of clients in territory and engage partners to keep them active with Manheim mobile inspections.
  • Leverage partner data and insight to maximize volume of units inspected.
  • Represent Cox Automotive as a brand ambassador, providing premier client experience.
  • Work closely with Wholesale Specialist team, peers, and other Manheim work groups and auctions.
  • Utilize  for reporting, lead input, and customer performance reviews.
  • Understand NAAA Frame/Structure Damage Policy.
  • Work in a continuous improvement/Lean environment and drive a lean culture.
  • Maintain production expectations set by the leader.
  • Follow all safety and health procedures, modeling related behaviors.
  • Participate in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Generally less than 2 years of related experience.
  • Safe driver with valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent time‑management, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Highly detail‑oriented, focused, organized, and energetic.
  • Strong teamwork and relationship‑building skills.
  • General knowledge of automotive components preferred.
  • Automotive estimating or repair experience a plus.
  • Technical automotive training (ASE, I‑CAR, etc.) preferred.
  • Basic proficiency with computers and electronic devices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to research, interpret, and apply secondary data appropriately.
Physical Requirements & Work Conditions

Must meet all physical criteria required to complete vehicle inspection routines, including regular bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 25 lb.), walking, standing, and climbing railcar and ship ladders. Must be able to work outdoors year‑round and extended hours, including weekends and holidays as needed.

Drug & Substance Testing

Cox Automotive requires a pre‑employment drug test. The position does not administer a marijuana test but is part of a drug‑free workplace and prohibits possession or use of illegal substances during work hours, on company property, or in company vehicles.
