The Estimator role is critical for the success of a restoration company, as they are responsible for creating estimates in Xactimate utilizing the program guidelines and IICRC standards. They must be detail-oriented and understand the commercial and insurance restoration industry. A basic construction background—understanding building materials, flooring, and other materials affected by wind, water, fire, smoke and other property damage—will assist in being successful in this position.
Xactimate experience is an essential requirement. Candidates without Xactimate experience will not be considered, and candidates must demonstrate knowledge of the software as part of the screening process.
Duties & Responsibilities- Work with the Project Manager / Crew Chief / Lead Tech on the scope of the job.
- Write mitigation and reconstruction estimates using Xactimate and other estimating software.
- Communicate conversations and key information on the job using the notes feature in the required software.
- Estimate using carrier audit standards and manage the estimate based on feedback from the client and customer.
- Communicate with project manager / lead tech to ensure all required documentation is complete (photos, notes, and signed documents).
- Determine labor and equipment costs.
- Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs and material pricing.
- Communicate with insurance companies and adjusters via phone and email in a timely manner, acting as a liaison.
- Manage all estimate documents and assess project risks.
- Review quotes and estimates with the construction project team.
- Address estimate exceptions in a timely manner.
Candidates should possess excellent customer service etiquette, flexibility, attention to detail, and accuracy. A problem‑solving mentality with a pleasant disposition and reliability are also required. Candidates must have Xactimate experience and a basic construction background, along with knowledge of building materials, flooring, and other materials affected by threats such as wind, water, fire, and smoke. Familiarity with other software such as Symbility, Clerk of the Works (Time and Material estimating), MICA, Dash, Docu Sign, and Matterport is a plus.
