West Work is an emerging architecture office committed to advancing design excellence with low-carbon materials and net-zero construction across housing, higher-education, and civic projects. Our team values design rigor, curiosity, collaboration, and technical innovation.
West Work is seeking an experienced architect to take on a leadership role within our growing team in Boston. Candidates should have interest in low carbon net-zero construction for affordable housing, higher-ed, and civic building design. This person will be responsible for design direction, project management, and technical implementation. They can expect to be involved in all aspects of project delivery, from schematic design through construction administration.
Applicants should have the ability and interest in working directly with clients.
- Designs and document projects in all phases, from early concept development through schematic, design development, and construction documentation.
- Manages, mentors, and supports emerging professionals.
- Responsible for quality deliverables including coordinated plans and specifications. (including consultant disciplines), and elegant details, while ensuring document quality and completeness.
- Leads coordination meetings with internal design team, consultants, and clients.
- Understands and coordinates engineering systems relevant to projects.
- Performs construction administration duties, or oversees the CA process ensuring accurate responses to RFIs, reviewed shop drawing/submittals, and effectively-managed change orders.
- Applicants must hold a current architectural license
- 10+ years of experience working in a professional office
- Demonstrated commitment to design excellence
- LEED or Passive House Consultant Certification (preferred)
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Strong skills in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Excel
- A working knowledge of Sketchup, Rhino, Bluebeam
- Passion for building science and sustainable technologies in the context of design excellence.
- Understanding of construction methods, building code, and zoning principles
