Job DescriptionJob Title: Middle School Math Teacher – Grade 5

Reports To: Middle School Principal
Position Type: Full‑Time, Exempt, 10‑Month Position
School Year: 2026‑2027
Salary: Instructional Salary Scale
The Middle School Math Teacher is responsible for delivering high‑quality, engaging instruction aligned with Massachusetts state standards and fostering a supportive, inclusive classroom environment where all students can succeed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Curriculum Development
Develop and implement engaging, rigorous math lessons aligned with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Curriculum Frameworks - Instruction
Deliver effective, differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners; foster a positive, inclusive, student‑centered classroom environment - Assessment
Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress; adjust instruction based on data to improve student outcomes - Technology Integration
Integrate instructional technology to enhance learning and build digital literacy - Collaboration
Work collaboratively with colleagues to design interdisciplinary projects and strengthen instructional practices - Communication
Maintain open, proactive communication with students, families, and colleagues to support student success and a strong school community
- Education & Certification
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Math, or a related field required;
Master’s degree preferred.
Must hold or be eligible for DESE licensure in Middle School Mathematics (Grades 5–8) or Mathematics (Grades 8–12).
Second language or English‑Language‑Learner (SEI) endorsement required (or to be obtained within first year) - Experience
Prior classroom teaching experience required; experience in Grades 5–8 preferred.
Demonstrated success teaching mathematics.
Familiarity with the Massachusetts mathematics curriculum frameworks desirable. - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong understanding of math instruction practices.
Ability to differentiate instruction for diverse learners, including ELs and students with special education plans.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Commitment to continuous improvement, equity, and culturally responsive teaching. - Authorization
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
- Operates in a school and office setting.
- May require some travel between schools.
- Occasional evening and weekend events (Board meetings, parent meetings, academic/athletic events, professional development) may be necessary.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs., and perform repetitive motions.
- Frequent bending, crouching, stooping, and stretching.
- Standing or walking throughout an 8‑hour shift.
- Must work in a fast‑paced environment requiring multitasking and attention to detail.
