Reports To:

Building Principal

As a teacher in the Worcester Public Schools you will provide rigorous instruction to the diverse population of students in your classroom. You will align your teaching to the district and state curriculum, regularly assess students for learning comprehension, and modify instruction to ensure student learning. The classroom will be conducive to the learning needs of all students, especially English language learners and students with disabilities.

Accountability Objective

This position is accountable for delivering a high‑quality instructional experience through creativity, resourcefulness, and sound judgment consistent with the curriculum frameworks, standards and the rules and regulations of the Worcester Public Schools.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Remain up to date regarding curriculum content.
  • Effectively plan and assess curriculum and instruction.
  • Mentor students’ understanding of the curriculum and adjust instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate.
  • Effectively manage classroom environment.
  • Deliver instruction, making learning goals clear to the students, using appropriate instructional and questioning techniques.
  • Use innovative approaches and instructional strategies, including effective use of technologies, to increase student learning and confidence to learn.
  • Promote high standards and expectations for student achievement.
  • Promote equity and appreciation of diversity, ensuring equitable opportunities for all students, including students with special needs, 504 plans, and second‑language learners.
  • Ensure equal educational opportunity for all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status, religion, gender identity, national origin, sexual orientation, homelessness or disability.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Appropriate Massachusetts DESE license in Science 5‑8.
  • SEI Endorsement.
  • BA degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience in the content area.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs.
  • Ability to speak Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, or an African language.
  • Experience teaching students who are English language learners.
  • Demonstrated experience with second language acquisition.
  • Licensed in another state and eligible for temporary DESE license (must possess the equivalent license from another state and have documented proof of working under that license for at least three complete school years). Candidates will need to apply for and pay for the DESE license as a condition of employment.
Work Year

185 days per year.

Salary & Benefits

Salary scale shown is based on a candidate holding a Bachelor's Degree with potential to increase dependent on the highest level of education.
