Job Description

Accountability objective: A Program Coordinator is an energetic and flexible employee who is eager to work in our therapeutic day school with a high‑needs population of students ages 5 to 22. This position is accountable for providing support to program staff through resourcefulness and sound judgment consistent with the rules and regulations of the Central Massachusetts Collaborative.

Responsibilities
  • Promote a positive school climate that fosters high student expectations and employs appropriate strategies that address multiple learning styles for all students.
  • Support program staff with developing and implementing effective academic and behavioral intervention plans, modeling implementation strategies, and supporting ongoing review of procedures and practices.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills to continually support the school and its students positively and in a professional manner at all opportunities.
  • Collaborate with program administration to assist the classroom teacher by reviewing, correcting and reinforcing academic and behavioral objectives with individual and small groups of students.
  • Coordinate group peer‑to‑peer meetings for program staff and provide oversight to all program services.
  • Assist program administration in developing master schedules that meet the student’s educational needs.
  • Support the monitoring of students' academic progress and attendance through close communication with administration, teachers, clinicians, students and parents.
  • Support the implementation, as directed, of educational and behavioral curriculum that enhances teaching and learning under Massachusetts State Frameworks.
  • Assist with the coordination of benchmark and MCAS testing schedules and support the development and assembly of MCAS‑Alt portfolios.
  • Oversee student records that document service provision and required documentation for assigned caseload.
  • Provide data as requested to support completion of mandated state and federal reports as assigned.
  • Support effective crisis management and communicate with all stakeholders and situations in a professional manner at all times.
  • Complete CPI/nonviolent crisis intervention training upon hire and maintain CPI/nonviolent crisis intervention certification.
  • Collaborate with program administration to develop and implement a program for professional development.
  • Assist in the coordination and supervision of day‑to‑day functions and activities such as transportation, hall and cafeteria monitoring and recess schedules through close communication with the Director.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Appropriate MA Teacher’s Certification or similar certification preferred.
  • A Master’s degree in Special Education or an appropriate related field preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of educational organizations, administration/supervision and curriculum development.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of techniques of classroom management and student discipline.
  • Demonstrates sound judgments and decision making aligned with school regulations and philosophy.
  • May, on occasion, need to reach, grasp and handle objects using upper extremities and be able to lift and carry objects and/or classroom equipment, up to 45 pounds.
  • Preference may be given to qualified internal candidates during the selection process.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required.
Additional Information
  • Work year: 188 days (183 pupil days, plus 5 non‑pupil days).
  • Work hours:

    7.5 hours per day for all pupil days and 6.5 hours per day for non‑pupil days.
  • Salary:
    Commensurate with experience and degree of education as outlined in the CBA.
  • Position type:
    Full‑time.
