The Head of School is responsible for the overall leadership and administration of their school campus, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. The Head of School, in collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer and Directors of Academics and Early Learning will oversee the implementation of the CDCPS’ mission and vision, manage daily operations, support faculty and staff, and foster a positive school culture.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced educational leader committed to academic excellence, equity, and student success.
This is a non-exempt, full-time, in-person role, who reports directly to the Director of Academics (Grades 2
- 8) or the Director of Early Learning (Prekindergarten to 1st Grade). The starting salary is $80,000, commensurate with experience.
- Collaborate with the Director of Academics or Director of Early Learning, Chief Academic Officer and other school leaders in developing and implementing the academic, social, cultural life of the school, school policies, programs and procedures.
- Lead the development and execution of the school’s strategic plan on their school campus.
- Foster a culture of academic excellence, inclusivity, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee curriculum development and ensure alignment with state standards and school goals while collaborating with the Curriculum and Instruction team.
- Support a standards based curriculum that results in high academic achievement.
- Support teachers in the implementation of effective teaching strategies and professional development.
- Monitor and evaluate instructional practices, teaching methods and educational programs and ensure they meet high standards and support diverse learning needs.
- Support data analysis with interim assessments and oversee implementation of real-time action plans to promote student progress.
- Foster a positive and inclusive school environment that supports students’ well‑being, academic and personal growth.
- Implement programs and services that address the diverse needs of students.
- Monitor student performance and develop strategies for continuous improvement.
- Address student disciplinary matters and ensure a safe and respectful learning environment.
- Interview, hire, and retain highly qualified educators and staff in collaboration with other school leaders and hiring managers.
- Manage and supervise grade level teams of teachers and educators.
- Plan and coordinate monthly staff meetings, collaboration and professional development days with the educational team.
- Develop and lead professional development and support implementation of best practices in the classroom through real time coaching.
- Conduct regular (summative and formative) performance evaluations for educators and provide constructive feedback.
- Supervise and collaborate with Operations Manager in supporting all school operations.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with students, families, faculty, and staff.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the school, families, and the broader community.
- Collaborate with other Head of Schools to convene and support the parent advisory board.
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders regarding school programs, policies, and events.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Ensure that school spaces are conducive to provide a safe and conducive learning environment in collaboration with the Maintenance department and other school leadership staff.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to CDCPS' mission, values, educational model through leadership, decision‑making and interactions with students, staff and families.
- Master’s degree, preferred;
Bachelor’s degree, required. - Minimum of 3 years of experience in education, including leadership/supervisor roles, with a successful track record.
- Strong understanding of curriculum development, instructional practices and assessment methods.
