As a teacher in the Worcester Public Schools you will be expected to provide rigorous instruction to a diverse population of students in your classroom. You will align your teaching to the district and state curriculum; assess students for learning comprehension and modify your instruction to ensure learning; and provide a classroom conducive to the learning needs of all students, especially English language learners and students with disabilities.

Accountability ObjectiveThis position is accountable for providing services to students identified with a disability through the team evaluation process. These students require systematic instruction across the curriculum. They are taught compensatory strategies using multi‑sensory techniques to build potential and self‑esteem.
Students with autism and related disabilities present significant social, communication, and behavioral deficits. Applicants must either have experience or willingness to learn Applied Behavior Analysis principles and facilitate a learning environment based on these principles. The teacher will collaborate closely with a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and other service providers to tailor programming to each student’s individual needs.
Principal Responsibilities- Serve as a member of the Special Education Team in writing educational plans and progress reports on SAGE‑IEP, completing assessments within required timelines.
- Follow the student IEP and ensure compliance with state and federal SPED regulations, including delivery of high‑quality services and accommodations/modifications for instruction and assessment.
- Maintain up‑to‑date curriculum content and modify the curriculum (across all domains) and instruction as identified on students’ IEPs.
- Provide multi‑sensory curricula daily and support student development of academics, social skills, communication skills, and behavior modification.
- Implement high‑quality teaching and learning using appropriate differentiated instructional techniques.
- Communicate and collaborate with regular‑education teachers and other personnel in educational programming.
- Understand state guidelines for standardized testing and provide appropriate accommodations as identified on student IEPs during test administration.
- Assess student knowledge and academic progress using formal and informal means to develop measurable IEP goals and support learning.
- Create and coordinate a schedule of services to ensure all IEP requirements are met.
- Provide individual, small‑group, and inclusion instruction aligned with the IEP.
- Guide and supervise paraprofessionals in instruction/support of students.
- Implement appropriate assistive technologies to support and enhance students’ communication and learning.
- Promote equity and appreciation of diversity to ensure equitable opportunities for learning in the least restrictive environment.
- Attend monthly department meetings and building‑based meetings (two per month).

- Massachusetts DESE license in Moderate Disabilities PreK‑8 and/or Severe Disabilities PreK‑2/All.

- Minimum of three years’ successful teaching experience in Special Education.
