Position: Student Success Advisor (Temporary - Short Term)

Overview

The Student Success Advisor provides academic and personal advising and case management services to about 375 undergraduate students (actual cohort size fluctuates between semesters). Using a holistic approach, Student Success Advisors work to empower, educate, and support students from matriculation to graduation. Specific responsibilities include: advising students through course selection and registration; overseeing the progress of students on academic probation; approving leave of absences and course withdrawals;

approving advanced placement credits; auditing academic progress toward degree completion; providing referral and follow‑up services to students in personal crisis; working collaboratively with partner offices to ensure students receive timely information and support related to their Babson experience; and support departmental initiatives.

This is a temporary short term exempt position (August 3rd - November 13th) with a monthly hiring range of $5,816-$6,463. This position includes paid sick leave where required by law. Eligibility, accrual, and usage will follow applicable state and local regulations.

Responsibilities

Academic and personal advising:

  • Advise students on course selection and registration; develop success and graduation plans with advisees.
  • Track student progress by running reports, reviewing students’ Academic Progress tab, analyzing student data, and communicating with students regarding registration, academic policies, grades, and graduation.
  • Collaborate with the Registrar on the certification process for undergraduates, including conducting degree audits.
  • Provide referrals and appropriate support for students experiencing concerns with personal matters affecting them (e.g., college transition challenges, mental and physical health, substance abuse, eating issues, family and other relationship concerns, harassment).
  • Meet with students and make appropriate referrals on concerns regarding grades, faculty, and their ability to successfully complete a course of study.
  • Track and review students who are over‑or under‑enrolled in courses.
  • Advise students on course options while on Education Abroad experiences.
  • Approve individual course withdrawal forms.
  • Educate students on academic policies and procedures, including the Petition for Exception process.
  • Approve and process advanced credit from high school in partnership with the Director, Undergraduate Administration (e.g., AP, IB, Swiss Matura, French Baccalaureate, and other college‑level coursework).
  • Collaborate with department leadership to approve off‑campus courses.
  • Review requests for exam excuses, in compliance with College policy, and issue approvals/denials as appropriate.
  • Refer students to Center for Career Development for internship and career planning.

Case management:

  • Review requests for leaves of absence and advise students on non‑medical and voluntary withdrawals from the College.
  • Monitor academic progress of students on academic probation and those returning from an academic suspension.
  • Work closely with departmental leadership, Director, Case Management & CARE Team and the Associate Vice President, Student Success regarding students of concern.
  • Act as a resource for students involved in the College community standards process.
  • Support all students and allow for professional growth; create programming and student development opportunities as needed.
  • Work closely with campus partners to address a range of student issues and concerns.
  • Accurately and promptly document meetings and notes in our student information system.
