POSITION SUMMARY

The Elementary School Music Teacher is committed to providing a rigorous, inclusive, and joyful learning environment for all students, delivering high-quality music instruction to students in grades K–3. The ideal candidate fosters creativity, promotes a love of music, and integrates music education into a broader culturally responsive curriculum.

WORK SCHEDULE

Days:
Monday – Friday (occasional weekends as needed for special events)
Schedule Details:
This position schedule is based on the academic calendar of the School Year which includes School Vacations, Holidays, Snow, and District Professional Development Days.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and implement an engaging, standards‑based general music curriculum aligned with the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Framework.
  • Provide music instruction to elementary students through singing, movement, instruments, music literacy, and appreciation.
  • Plan and lead musical performances and school‑wide events (e.g., winter concerts, spring showcases).
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including English Learners and students with disabilities.
  • Create a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom culture that promotes student agency and collaboration.
  • Use assessment data to guide instruction and report student progress to families and school leadership.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and school leadership to integrate music into interdisciplinary learning when appropriate.
  • Participate in professional development, team meetings, and other school‑based initiatives as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS
  • Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) licensure in one of the following:
    PreK–8 Music (Initial, Professional, or Temporary License);
    Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement (already held or willingness to obtain as a condition of employment).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or related field.
  • Ability to analyze and use data to inform and drive student learning.
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with teachers, administrators, and support staff.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  • Experience teaching music in a K–5 public school setting.
  • Bilingual or multilingual candidates encouraged to apply.
  • Experience with culturally responsive pedagogy and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Familiarity with Orff, Kodály, Dalcroze, or other music education methodologies.
  • Other qualifications and experiences may be substituted for preferred qualifications at the discretion of the administration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Background check and fingerprinting as required by Massachusetts state regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to lift, move, or assist students when necessary.
  • Completion of any required professional development or certifications as mandated by the District.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment is typically inside a school or classroom setting. Noise levels may vary, but are generally moderate, with occasional higher noise levels due to student activities or group work. Some travel between classrooms and school buildings may be required. The role may require lifting, carrying, or moving educational materials or students, as well as the ability to monitor and engage in physical activities.
