Job Description
Central Massachusetts Collaborative (CMC) is a therapeutic day school serving students ages 5 to 22. The Safety Coordinator supports school safety by promoting a positive climate, developing safety plans, managing safety sessions, and supporting staff and students.
Primary Responsibilities- Promote a positive school climate that fosters high student expectations and employs strategies for diverse learning styles.
- Support program staff in developing and implementing effective safety plans and in reviewing safety procedures.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills to support the school and its students in a professional manner.
- Collaborate with program administration to assist staff with student safety.
- Coordinate group peer-to-peer meetings for safety staff and provide oversight to all safety services.
- Assist program administration in coordinating safety sessions and master schedules for safety programs.
- Support the monitoring of student safety through close communication with administration, teachers, clinicians, students, and parents.
- Implement safety curriculum in accordance with Massachusetts State Frameworks to enhance teaching and learning.
- Coordinate benchmark and social‑emotional/behavioral testing schedules and support the development and implementation of behavior plans.
- Oversee student safety records that document service provision and required documentation for assigned caseload.
- Provide data to support completion of mandated state and federal reports as assigned.
- Support effective crisis management and communicate with all stakeholders in a professional manner at all times.
- Complete CPI/nonviolent crisis intervention training upon hire and maintain certification.
- Collaborate with program administration to develop and implement a professional‑development program regarding safety.
- Support safety during functions and activities such as transportation, hall and cafeteria monitoring, and recess schedules.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- Appropriate Massachusetts Teacher’s Certification required; MA certification as a Principal/Assistant Principal, Administrator of Special Education, and/or Supervisor/Director of Special Education preferred.
- Advanced educational preparation in the discipline or area of certification.
- Basic knowledge of educational organization administration, supervision, and curriculum development.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Working knowledge of techniques of classroom management and student discipline.
- Demonstrates sound judgment and decision making aligned with school regulations and philosophy.
- May, on occasion, need to reach, grasp, and handle objects using upper extremities and be able to lift and carry objects or classroom equipment up to 45 pounds.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
