Position Summary

The District School Psychologist supports the academic, social, and emotional development of our students. The successful candidate will collaborate with educators, parents, and administrators to create a supportive learning environment that addresses the diverse needs of our student population. This is a full-time position following the academic calendar.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assessment and Evaluation:
    Conduct comprehensive psycho educational evaluations of students referred for potential special education services, primarily within the district.
  • Intervention:
    Develop and implement individualized intervention strategies to support students' mental health and learning challenges. Provide counseling to students to address needs at the special education level.
  • Consultation:
    Consult with teachers, school administration, parents, and others regarding the planning, implementation, and evaluation of individual and group social-emotional interventions designed to address students' learning as well as social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
  • Crisis Management:
    Assist the student support team with crisis situations and provide immediate support as needed.
  • IEP and Special Education Support:
    Function as a member of the building-level special education team in providing special education and counseling-based services to students with and without disabilities, including participating in IEP meetings and other school-wide planning activities.
  • Confidentiality and Compliance:
    Maintain confidentiality of student records and ensure all practices adhere to federal, state, and local regulations, as well as school policies.
  • Professional Development:
    Attend training sessions, conferences, seminars, and district meetings to stay informed about best practices in school psychology.
  • Collaboration and Leadership:
    Serve on district committees, task forces, and work groups as requested.
  • Continuous Learning:
    Keep abreast of changing developments, trends, instructional methods, and educational technologies to enhance service delivery.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher in School Psychology from a program approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), including a 1,200-hour advanced practicum with at least 600 hours in a school setting.
  • Possession of a School Psychologist license issued by the Massachusetts DESE.
  • Prior experience working with elementary-aged children in a diverse school setting is preferred.
  • Strong assessment and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to develop and implement effective intervention strategies.
  • Knowledge of current laws and regulations pertaining to special education and student rights.
Additional Requirements
  • Background check and fingerprinting as required by Massachusetts state regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to lift, move, or assist students when necessary.
  • Completion of any required professional development or certifications as mandated by the District.
Work Environment

This position operates in a school and office setting. Some travel between schools may be required. Occasional evening and weekend events for parent meetings, college nights, or professional development may be necessary.
