Job Description
Position: Building Substitute Teacher
Reports To: Building Principal
As a teacher in the Worcester Public Schools you will be expected to provide rigorous instruction to the diverse population of students in your classroom. You will be expected to align your teaching to the district and state curriculum, regularly assess students for learning comprehension, and modify your teaching to ensure that students are learning; to provide a classroom that is conducive to the learning needs of all students, especially students who are learning English and students with disabilities.

Accountability ObjectiveThis position is accountable for assuming the responsibility for delivering high quality instructional experience through creativity, resourcefulness and sound judgment consistent with the curriculum frameworks, standards and the rules and regulations of the Worcester Public Schools. Building substitutes support the work of the building and will be given daily assignments by the building principal. The assignments will vary and can include assignments to cover any classroom or grade level at the school.
The assignments can also include duties (lunch, recess, hall, dismissal, etc.) and/or covering for instructional assistants.
Successful applicants will be expected to be on duty and ready for work 10 minutes prior to the start of the school day and remain 30 minutes after the end of the day. Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree
- Ability to meet the district's attendance requirements
- Experience working with school aged students
- Ability and willingness to successfully complete a variety of school-based assignments
- Ability and willingness to learn and enforce school and district expectations for student and staff behavior
- Excellent communication skills
- Commitment to adhering to a work environment that values and supports all students and families
- Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs
- Ability to speak Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, or an African Language
- Experience teaching students who are English language learners
Work Year: School-year calendar, 180 pupil days
Salary: $50.72/hour (6 hours/day)
