POSITION: BUILDING SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

REPORTS TO:

BUILDING PRINCIPAL

As a teacher in the Worcester Public Schools you will be expected to provide rigorous instruction to the diverse population of students in your classroom. You will be expected to align your teaching to the district and state curriculum; to regularly assess students for learning comprehension and to modify your teaching to ensure that students are learning; to provide a classroom that is conducive to the learning needs of all students, especially students who are learning English and students with disabilities.

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
This position is accountable for delivering a high-quality instructional experience through creativity, resourcefulness, and sound judgment consistent with the curriculum frameworks, standards, and the rules and regulations of the Worcester Public Schools. Building substitutes support the work of the building and will be given daily assignments by the building principal. The assignments will vary and can include covering any classroom or grade level at the school, as well as duties such as lunch, recess, hall, dismissal, and/or covering for instructional assistants.

Responsibilities
  • Commit to remaining in the position for the complete school year
  • Commit to reporting to work on time and for complete workdays
  • Learn and enforce the rules and procedures of the district and the school
  • Work under the direction of the building principal and accept a variety of assignments
  • Interact with students, colleagues, and families in a professional and respectful manner
  • Supervise students and enforce the school's rules, including safety rules
  • Prepare for assignments by reviewing curriculum and lesson plans
  • Communicate with supervisors and colleagues about work-related issues
  • Work successfully in a fast-paced environment

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
  • Successful applicants will be expected to be on duty and ready for work 10 minutes prior to the start of the school day and remain 30 minutes after the end of the day.     Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Ability to meet the district's attendance requirements
  • Experience working with school-aged students
  • Ability and willingness to successfully complete a variety of school-based assignments
  • Ability and willingness to learn and enforce school and district expectations for student and staff behavior
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Commitment to an environment that values and supports all students and families
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students with special needs
  • Ability to speak Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, or an African Language
  • Experience teaching students who are English language learners
  • Work Year

    School-year calendar, 180 pupil days

    Salary

    $50.72 per hour (6 hours per day)
